US Congressman Steve Cohen makes statement about Khojaly tragedy
US Congressman Steve Cohen has made a statement on the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of Khojaly tragedy.
The Congressman noted that more than 600 people were murdered in Khojaly which is situated in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno Karabakh region on February 26, 1992.
Cohen said although the ceasefire was signed 20 years ago, 20 percent of Azerbaijan is still under occupation including Nagorno Karabakh and its seven surrounding regions. “More than one million Azerbaijanis were expelled from their homes.”
Steve Cohen stressed that Azerbaijan is the partner of US in security and energy issues despite the challenges of its neighborhood. He also stressed Azerbaijan’s contributions to the peaceful international operations, especially NATO’s operations in Afghanistan.
The US Congressman noted Azerbaijan plays a key role in the construction of the Southern gas corridor which will be a significant alternative for Europe.
