Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Puppet regime established in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan has no legal ground to arrange a court case against the citizens of Azerbaijan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has issued a statement following the Armenian media reports about holding a trial for Azerbaijani citizens Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov, who were taken hostage by Armenia.

The statement reads: “According to information of Armenian media fictitious court case was launched against Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov who were taken hostage by Armenia.

The puppet regime established in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan has no legal ground to arrange a court case against the citizens of Azerbaijan and the decision issued by this court can in no way be considered legal.

While visiting the graves of their parents Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov were taken hostage and were subjected to tortures within the fabricated criminal case and Hasan Hasanov was brutally killed. These actions of Armenia are in direct contravention of the international humanitarian law and the provisions of Geneva Conventions.

Except the conditions specified by the laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan, no one has a right to put restrictions or prohibitions on the free movement of Azerbaijani citizens in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Puppet Nagorno-Karabakh regime was established in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan to conceal the occupation and aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan. Armenia, by committing occupation and aggression against Azerbaijan blatantly violated the norms and principles of international law, the Charter of the United Nations and Helsinki Final Act and bears full and direct responsibility for such actions.

With the aim of ensuring the release of Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov the contacts are being continued with the international organizations, OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and the International Committee of Red Cross.”
