YARAT to organize Artist Talk by Photographer David Montgomery

YARAT Contemporary Art Space will organize an artist talk by a legendary photographer David Montgomery whose works have become standard descriptions of the 1960s. His photographic subjects have included Bill Clinton, Mick Jagger, Jimi Hendrix, Margaret Thatcher, Peter O'Toole, Andy Warhol and the members of Great Britain’s royal family.

David Montgomery (b. 1937) is an American photographer known for his portraits of the rich and famous. He studied music at the Juilliard School of Music. He was an assistant to photographer Lester Bookbinder in New York and accompanied him on a working visit to the United Kingdom in the early 1960s and stayed there.

He has contributed regularly to Vogue, The Sunday Times, and Rolling Stone. A side to photography, the post office commissioned Montgomery to photograph a special edition stamp for the millennium which won a silver award at the Design and Art Direction Awards. His collection of images capturing sixties pop culture have become classical. Proud Chelsea featured Montgomery’s photographs of The Rolling Stones in Decca Years: The Rolling Stones 1962- 1971 in 2011.

Montgomery’s artist talk will be given within the framework of YARAT’s education programme that includes lectures, seminars and monthly workshops by famous artists, photographers, curators and art critics.

All workshops and seminars within the YARAT educational programme are free of charge.

In the period from 2012 to 2014 in Baku lectures and master classes were given by the representatives from the Moscow National Centre for Contemporary Arts (NCCA) VitalyPatsyukov and AleksandrObukhov, the founder of the Tbilisi Centre of Contemporary Art VatoTsereteli, Dean of Central St. Martins University, Mr. Mark Dunhill and Mr. Jordan Baseman, the head of the faculty of sculpture at the Royal College of Fine Arts.

An independent curator Sara Raza has recently given her talk in Baku. Before the end of 2014, lectures artist talks and workshops will be given by the artist Mahmoud Bakhshi, photographers Mervyn Arthur and Rosella Emmanuel as well as by Professor Birgitta Hosea of the University of the Arts, London who specialises in the area of animation and video art.
