International Working Group of 3rd World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue convenes in New York

A meeting of the International Working Group of the third World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue has kicked off in New York.

The meeting brought together an Azerbaijani delegation, representatives of UNESCO, United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, World Tourism Organization, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations of Coventry University.

The United Nations High Representative Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser and Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev opened the event to praise the Baku process and the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue as “the world's only initiative bringing together major international organizations”. They said the Baku process and the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue contribute to strengthening international dialogue among cultures and religions and building confidence. The Minister said there were great expectations from the forum initiated by President Ilham Aliyev. “This global event will be an important step forward towards ensuring coexistence of diverse cultures and religions, and developing a culture of dialogue.”

The meeting was co-chaired by spokesman of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Nihal Saad and head of the Department of International Cooperation at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism Vasif Eyvazzade. It heard proposals from representatives of each partner organization.

The forum focused on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, cultural, religious and extremist tendencies, tourism, migration, education, promotion of intercultural skills, human security, youth and social media, culture and intercultural dialogue cities.

The Working Group decided to complete the final program of the event until February 15.
