Ali Hasanov: ‘The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan are the mightiest army in the region and are capable of fulfilling any task set before them’

“Armenian aggressors made sure that before them are not sparse military detachments as back in the early 1990s, but a professional standing army equipped with the most up-to-date weapons”

“As known, sabotage groups of the Armenian army have made several assaults on positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in various directions of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the contact line of troops since the late July. These attempts turned more intensive on August 1-2 and resulted in the death of 13 servicemen of our national army. Although those assault attempts were pre-arranged, they didn’t achieve the outcome they were seeking and were thrown back with serious casualties. The Armenians suffered significant casualties thanks to vigilance and retaliatory actions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. Despite rigorous censorship, Armenian sources reported tens of servicemen dead. All these facts clearly showed the power and high-level combat readiness of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces once again. Armenian aggressors made sure that before them are not sparse military detachments as back in the early 1990s, but a professional standing army equipped with the most up-to-date weapons. The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan are the mightiest army in the region and are capable of fulfilling any task set before them”, said Ali Hasanov, head of political and public affairs department at the Presidential Administration in Azerbaijan.

Ali Hasanov said escalating tension on the front line stems from several underlying reasons: “In the first place, the existing tension can be perceived as an integral part of Armenia’s policy of keeping the current status quo. As you know, President Ilham Aliyev has been quite a success in exposing Armenia’s aggressive image and revealing the truth behind the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to the world community. We have already achieved to dislodge the Armenian lobby in the region where it has traditionally dominated. Our country took necessary steps to draw the world's attention to this conflict when it was a member of the UN Security Council. All of the leading international organizations, the major power centers, individual influential states have already stated that the status quo is unacceptable and they support resolution of the conflict within the principles of international law. Armenia has no more limit for reasonable excuses. On the one hand, Sargsyan’s regime is trying to avoid insistent demands of the international community, OSCE Minsk Group regarding radical solution to the problem and draw attention to the negative manifestations of the conflict. On the other hand, it wants to restrict the activities of Azerbaijan through some contracts as it abstains from the ways that our country will use for liberating the occupied territories. However, there is no and can’t be benefit of these efforts. Azerbaijan will achieve a fair solution to the conflict using all the opportunities, available resources, its strong political, economic and military potential from now on.

Hasanov said it is not excluded that Armenia's recent provocations are based on diverting the attention of the international community from the ongoing military conflicts that took place in the CIS space.

Can the latest steps of the Armenian side lead to increase of the pressures against Armenia at the international level?

“I consider that Armenia should be imposed on sanctions long ago. Today the sanctions imposed on Russia in the background of Ukrainian events should be firstly imposed on invader Armenia which disregards the implementation of the four resolutions adopted by the UN since 1992. I think that serious sanctions against Armenia are important to ensure the security of the entire region as well. Moreover, the analysis of similar cases in the world proves that the most effective way to stop the aggressor is to take practical measures against it. Taking into account all these, I think that the statements of the US Department of State, the UN, the European Union and other influential organizations didn’t meet the expectations of the Azerbaijani community. The international community, the OSCE Minsk Group member states, leading international organizations mainly including the United Nations Security Council should focus on the current situation and take real measures that deter Armenia's destructive activities for outbreak of the conflict in the region again.
