EU agrees GMO crop compromise
EU environment ministers have agreed a compromise deal that will allow individual member states to ban GMO crops if they wish. Those in favor of GMO’s or genetically modified organisms can go ahead with planting them under certain conditions.
The agreement struck in Luxemburg comes after nearly four years of deadlock.
The draft text will now be reviewed by MEP’s at next plenary session.
7 EU countries have already introduced their own ban as six-year EU wide ban on GMO’s was lifted in 2004 by the European Commission which insisted on strict traceability and labeling rules.
